If Chocolate was Carbon...

Just as I thought I would never emerge from the mountain of paperwork on my desk today I had a phone call from the very wonderful Dave Hampton, sometimes referred to as the Carbon Coach to the rich and famous (and believe me that's a good thing). Dave and I are hoping to meet up next week at an event I'm going to - actually if you have a burning desire to see what I look like you can watch an interview with me here which explains why I'm leaving the garden at this crucial time of the year to spend 2 days in London.

My conversation with Dave made me think about how we communicate carbon reduction. If you have a bar of chocolate are you the type to guzzle it down in  five minutes or do you prefer to savour  the experience and make it last as long as possible? For me chocolate, like fossil fuels  is a luxury to be cherished. When I  give presentations about carbon reduction I often use this anaology to explain carbon rationing or reduction strategies. It makes it more tangible and there is no better way to engage a group of teenagers  or the Womens' Insitute than to produce a bar of chocolate!

Next week I'm off to 2gether08 to gather support for the Low Carbon Communities Conference in October. I'll be interviewing Dave there and you'll be able to read more about our conversations soon.
