How to store Onions and Potatoes
Hi Finbow,
We have a nice crop of onions and potatoes and wondered what the best way to store them both is - any recommendations?
Marc
Hi Marc, It really isn't harvesting weather at the moment but if there are any signs of blight (browning and sloughing of leaves)get them out as soon as you can and burn the tops. If they are muddy, you will need to wash and dry them and discard any that feel squidgy and use any that have fork damage immediately; dont try to stock them. A cool cellar is the best place to store them but they should keep pretty well in boxes or trays under the bed. Onions should be harvested and dried on the ground. When the leaves have yellowed and are dry, they can be bunched and stored hung in the proverbial cool, dry place. Again, only try keeping the healthy ones.
